Born in Hong Kong in 1990, Rebecca Li is a professional cellist and cello teacher. She is a person of diversity. She enjoys performing in various genres, such as classical, jazz, folk, rock and pop.

 

She began playing the piano at the age of four and cello at the age of twelve. Later on, she received formal musical education at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2008, studied cello performance with Miss Letty Poon. After finishing her diploma programme, she went to study in France with Mr Paul Julien at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and finished her further study at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques Thibaud, in the class of Mr Etienne Péclard, previous cello principal of The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre de Paris.

Rebecca performs actively in different orchestras in Hong Kong, such as Hong Kong Contemporary Music Group, Hong Kong City Pop Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Orchestra and Ensemble Transience.  She has performed in various art festivals such as, The New Vision Arts Festival in 2014, played with one of the world’s leading dance companies, Hofesh Shechter Company. She was one of the musicians in Political Mother; The World Cultures Festival.  In 2015, she participated in Hong Kong Episodes and went on a world tour with the production in 2017. Other festivals such as, Freespace Jazz Festival in 2019 and 2020 and several editions of Freespace Happening. She also had the chance to work with international artists such as Andrea Boccelli, Il Divo, Koji Tamaki, Coco Lee, Sammi Cheng. 

Rebecca is frequently employed as a studio session cellist. She has recorded music for movies, commercials, music artists and performed in different event  campaigns for brands such as, Audi, Alcatel, IFC Mall, K11 Musea, Louis Vuitton and more.
